Kowloon Walled City Park

These are all the photos I took from our visit to the Kowloon Walled City Park. The Kowloon Walled City was previously a site of crime and violence. Even though this site belonged to Chinese territory, The British troops forced the Chinese people to evacuate this land. And this left behind a dilapidated site filled with crime and other dark activities. in 1987, the Chinese government reclaimed this land. The older slum area that was once this area was converted into a park. Even till today, this typically Chinese park reflects the traditions and cultures of the land. It is now open for the public and visitors to appreciate.

It is absolutely amazing what they have done in the site and also all the efforts they have gone to preserve the aesthetics parts of the land that once was there. There are amazing lakes and water bodies, incredible Chinese nature and plants, so much flora and fauna and the sound of birds and insects is to be heard everywhere. It is so peaceful, what is was intended to be when it was revitalised.

I have been there twice now, it is so close to our university and such a nice place to just relax and unwind. Yesterday, when I went there we even saw a Chinese couple get married in their traditional outfits and we just stood there and admired their clothes for so long.

I think this is definitely one of the top 10 places to visit in Hong Kong; a hidden gem!
