NIJO CASTLE, KYOTO

Yesterday’s visit to Nijo Castle in Kyoto! It is such  a beautiful city here with so much history and heritage. Nijo Castle is actually a UNESCO World Heritage Site and I think it was my first time visiting a UNESCO listed site. The place itself was absolutely amazing surrounded by beautiful lush gardens and landscapes. We walked around to the castle first and looked at all the different rooms and meeting spaces which was all decorated in traditional Japanese interior architecture. It was interesting to observe how the architecture and the design of the rooms reflected on the hierarchy and the position of power of the emperors in comparison to the commoners.
After seeing the castle, Adrian and I wandered around the gardens and looked at all the different Japanese trees and the greenery of the castle gardens. It was amazing!
